Winter brings everything from extreme temperatures to strong winds and even the occasional flying debris, which means windows are bound to get subjected to a lot of wear and tear. Winter is also the time of the year when any problems with insulation are easier to spot. But since replacing your windows during winter can be impractical, you’re better off waiting for repair or replacement during spring.
Spring Saves You Cash
Getting replacement windows during other times of the year can increase your home’s energy usage because your HVAC will spend more energy trying to regulate indoor air. Autumn and winter are too cold, so you can expect your heating bill to go up while summer will put your air conditioning into overdrive.
Spring Makes Installation Easier
Because the temperature during spring season is just right, the caulk used to install replacement windows tends to adhere faster than usual. Installing windows during summer is slightly better than doing it during the colder months, but then you have to worry about the caulk drying too fast or not curing properly.
There’s also a term known as “substrate movement,” where materials such as aluminum and vinyl tend to expand or contract. With the more extreme temperature changes during other seasons, substrate movement tends to get worse, making the frame more prone to warping. This means that the window will be installed with the wrong measurements. If you want your replacement windows to fit right, have them installed during spring.
